FAQs
How do the Maryland Fund for Excellence, Alumni Association, and Terrapin Club differ?
Gifts through the Maryland Fund for Excellence support the university's academic mission, affording students the resources integral to an enriching academic experience. The Alumni Association offers members career development, continuing education and social opportunities as well as discounts and access to campus facilities. Contributions to the Terrapin Club support the university's athletic scholarship program and provide hundreds of student-athletes with scholarship assistance.
How does my annual gift through the Maryland Fund for Excellence make an impact and where does my money go?
Your gift goes directly where you want it to go! You can designate your gift to the department, school, college or campus-wide academic program of your choice. Your annual gift and gifts from other Maryland family members combine to provide vital support for Maryland's talented students.
What are unrestricted gifts and why are they important?
Unrestricted gifts provide the administration, deans and department heads immediate, flexible funds for new initiatives, scholarship programs, or other academic priorities that are not included in current operating budgets.
What is a matching gifts program and how do I utilize it?
As a demonstration of commitment to employees and partnership with the community, numerous companies will match an employee's (and/or spouse's) gift to a charitable organization. To find out how to maximize the impact of your gift, contact your (or your spouse's) human resources department.
How will my gift be recognized?
Annual gifts of $100 or more are recognized university-wide through membership in an honorary recognition club associated with the level of gift. All donors who contribute annual gifts totaling $1,000 or more to the University of Maryland are recognized as Colonnade Society members.
